Reduction of bus transitions with Partial Bus-Invert Coding

Indexing terms: Bus-invert coding, Low power ____________________________________________________________________________________ Abstract: This Letter proposes a partial bus-invert coding scheme that reduces the total number of bus transitions further than the conventional bus-invert coding. In the proposed scheme, only a selected subset of the bus lines, which is determined statically, is considered for the bus-invert coding. Experimental results show that the partial bus-invert coding reduces the number of total bus transitions by 62.4% on the average, compared to that without coding, and 39.2% on the average, compared to that of the conventional bus-invert coding.
